4 Collagen Coffee and Tea Recipes for a Healthier Caffeine Fix

You’ve probably seen it on Instagram or your favorite wellness blog: steaming cups of coffee and frothy matcha lattes infused with collagen, the beauty industry’s latest obsession. Adding collagen to your coffee isn’t just trendy, however—it’s an easy way to get a quick dose of protein and tap into the many other health benefits of collagen, like better digestion, firmer skin, and stronger hair and nails.

Now, you can add collagen peptides directly into your morning brew—it’s a tasteless powder that dissolves easily in hot liquids—but if you want to really take your caffeine fix to the next level, we rounded up our favorite collagen coffee and tea recipes from Vital Proteins below.

Black Eyed Coffee

You love coffee—so why not put coffee in your coffee? Supercharged with a shot of espresso and dairy-free collagen creamer, this recipe is perfect for coffee addicts (or the very sleep-deprived).

Ingredients

Combine espresso and coffee in a cup. Slowly pour Collagen Creamer into cup and mix thoroughly. Enjoy immediately.

Vanilla Collagen Latte

We love this healthful version of our go-to Starbucks order for its lightly sweet taste—and the fact that it keeps us feeling full until lunchtime.

Ingredients

  • 1 scoop Vital Proteins Vanilla Collagen Creamer

  • 8 oz freshly brewed coffee

  • 4 oz plus 2 oz milk or nondairy milk of your choice

  • 1 tablespoon coconut oil or organic butter

  • Cinnamon and/or nutmeg to taste (optional)

Combine coffee, 4 oz of milk, coconut oil, and cinnamon in a blender. Slowly add Collagen Creamer and blend until creamy. Pour the remaining 2 oz of milk into a cup and steam (or use a milk frother) until frothy. Pour the coffee mixture into the cup with the frothed milk and enjoy.

Frothy Butter Coffee

Okay, we were skeptical of butter coffee when we first heard about it, but after trying this collagen-infused version, we’re coming around to the idea. Creamy, frothy, and surprisingly filling, it’s full of healthy fats and protein.

Ingredients

  • 8 to 12 oz freshly brewed coffee

  • 2 tablespoons butter or ghee (preferably organic and grass-fed)

  • 1 tablespoon coconut or MCT oil

  • 1 to 2 scoops Vital Proteins Collagen Peptides

  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

  • Pinch of sea salt

  • Pinch of cinnamon, nutmeg, or ginger (optional)

Combine all the ingredients in a blender and blend on high for 30 to 60 seconds until thick and frothy. Enjoy immediately.

Matcha Collagen Latte

If coffee isn’t for you, try this creamy matcha latte. The matcha gives you a jitter-free boost of energy while the collagen peptides help you power through your morning without succumbing to the coffee cart.

Ingredients

  • 2 scoops Vital Proteins Vanilla Collagen Creamer

  • 6 to 8 oz hot water

  • 1 tablespoon grass-fed butter or coconut oil

  • 1 scoop Vital Proteins Matcha Collagen

  • 1 teaspoon honey (optional)

Slowly pour Collagen Creamer and Matcha Collagen into the hot water, stirring with a milk frother or by hand as you go. Once fully dissolved, stir in butter or coconut oil (and honey if desired) until smooth and creamy. Enjoy hot, or pour over ice for an iced matcha latte.

Why Women Wear High Heels: Evolution, Lumbar Curvature, and Attractiveness

D espite the widespread use of high-heeled footwear in both developing and modernized societies, we lack an understanding of this behavioral phenomenon at both proximate and distal levels of explanation. The current manuscript advances and tests a novel, evolutionarily anchored hypothesis for why women wear high heels, and provides convergent support for this hypothesis across multiple methods. Using a recently discovered evolved mate preference, we hypothesized that high heels influence women’s attractiveness via effects on their lumbar curvature. Independent studies that employed distinct methods, eliminated multiple confounds, and ruled out alternative explanations showed that when women wear high heels, their lumbar curvature increased and they were perceived as more attractive. Closer analysis revealed an even more precise pattern aligning with human evolved psychology: high-heeled footwear increased women’s attractiveness   only   when wearing heels altered their lumbar curvatur

Sunglasses That Help Your Eyes as Well as Your Look

Many people my age with lens implants following cataract surgery are thrilled not to have to wear glasses all the time, but I’ve recently gone in the opposite direction. Although at 78 I can still drive and, in good light, even read the newspaper without corrective lenses, I’ve chosen to wear glasses nearly all the time. Within the last two years, I’ve invested in multiple pairs of prescription glasses with progressive “transition” lenses, which darken in sunlight to become sunglasses. They provide visual enhancement and protection  and  serve as a fashion statement. If and when I need to have cataract surgery and require a new prescription, I’ll replace the lenses in my favorite eyeglass frames and continue to wear them. Glasses have in effect become my jewelry, and I’ve been amazed at how many compliments they inspire. But even more amazing is what the glasses have done for the safety and comfort of my eyes, protecting them from dust, bugs, drying breezes and, most important of all
